Jao Tsung-I Academy - Revitalization of a Historic Site

About the past of this place, there is a rich history.
It was once a customs station, a quarantine station, a prison, an infectious disease hospital and a psychiatric rehabilitation centre.

In about 2012, under the support by the Hong Kong Government, this place was being revitalized into a hostel, a restaurant and a museum.
Its aim is to provide Chinese culture education to the public.
The operation cost of this place is self-financed.
Its income is mainly generated from the hostel and restaurant operations.

In this place, there are some red brick buildings.
All of them are the declared Grade III historic buildings in Hong Kong.
No matter whether you like Chinese culture, it is worth to walk around or enjoy an afternoon tea here.

This place is called "Jao Tsung-I Academy".
Its museum is open to public from 10:00am to 6:00pm daily.
It is closed on Mondays.
Admission is free.

To get there, take MTR to Mei Foo MTR Station and leave at Exit B.
Then, walk towards the direction of CLP Power Hong Kong Limited Mei Lai Road Substation.
Near the substation, there is a staircase going up.
Walk along the staircase to go uphill and it will lead you to Castle Peak Road.
You will see Jao Tsung-I Academy at opposite of the road.
