Lei Yue Mun Old Stone Quarry - Memory of Quarrying

Before the 80s, stone carving was a prosperous industry in Hong Kong.
Especially at the peak period, this industry accounted for about one-eighth of the total number of local employment.

However, after the 80s, the economic transformation took place in Hong Kong.
Imports of construction materials, such as reinforced concrete, replaced the stone as the main building materials.
The stone carving industry began to wither.
Stone quarry was closed down one after another.

This stone quarry, which is located in Lei Yue Mun, is also the one of them.
It is now an abandoned place, with remains of some stone houses and a stone hill.
It is also a popular venue for taking wedding photos and tourist snapshots.

This stone quarry is called "Lei Yue Mun Old Stone Quarry".
It is located at the south east area of Lei Yue Mun.

To get there, you can take the MTR to the Yau Tong MTR Station and leave at Exit A2.
Then, walk along Cha Kwo Ling Road to get to Lei Yue Mun Path, and then Lei Yue Mun Praya Road.
Afterwards, walk along Lei Yue Mun Praya Road to get to Lei Yue Mun Hoi Pong Road Central, and then Lei Yue Mun Hoi Pong Road East.
