Tsang Tai Uk - Well Preserved Big House

This village is one of the biggest and the best preserved ancient villages in Hong Kong.
Being a family stronghold, this village is surrounded by the fortified walls.
Besides, defensive towers were built at the four corners to enhance the protection of the village.

This village consists of three rows of village houses arranged to form a rectangle.
Each village house is interlinked by passages with each other.

This village is a typical Hakka walled village and it was built by Tsang clan in about 1848.
The fortified walls were mainly constructed by granite, grey bricks and solid timber.

In this village, there are three arched entrances.
The entrance in the middle leads to the ancestral hall in the innermost row of houses.

This village is called "Tsang Tai Uk", literally means "The Big House of Tsang Clan".
It is also known as "Shan Ha Wai".

To get to this place, you can take the MTR to the Sha Tin Wai MTR Station and leave at Exit A.
