Golden Bauhinia Square - Golden Bauhinia

Hong Kong was once a British colony.
It was finally returned to China on 1 July 1997 and the handover ceremony was held at that day in Hong Kong.
During the ceremony, a golden bauhinia statue was sent to Hong Kong as a gift from China to commemorate this historic moment in Chinese history.

This golden bauhinia statue is about 6 meters high.
It was placed in an open area in Wan Chai facing the waterfront.
This open area is now called "Golden Bauhinia Square".

Nowadays, flag raising ceremony is a highlight in the Golden Bauhinia Square.
The Hong Kong Police Officers and the Police Pipe Band will participate in the ceremony.

There are three kinds of ceremonies, the daily flag raising ceremony, the enhanced flag raising ceremony and the special flag raising ceremony.
The daily flag raising ceremony is held every day from 7:50am to 8:03am except the first of each month.
The enhanced flag raising ceremony is held on the first day of each month and the special flag raising ceremony takes place on 1 July and 1 October from 7:45am to 8:13am.
However, the ceremony may be cancelled at any time due to bad weather conditions.

Right besides the statue, there is another tourist attraction, the Victoria Harbour.
While you take a stroll along the Victoria Harbour promenade, you can enjoy the dramatic and eye-catching views of Hong Kong’s skyline.

To reach the square, exit off Wan Chai MTR Station Exit A5.
Then, walk across the footbridge of O’Brien Road, and walk through the Immigration Tower and Central Plaza to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
This square is located next to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
