Bethanie Chapel - A Gothic Revival architecture. A church with historical relics.

If you want to appreciate the Gothic Revival architecture and feel the atmosphere of the church, then the places introduced by HongKongFootprint.com this time will surely satisfy these two wishes.

The "Bethanie Chapel" in Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong has a very long history and was built by the Paris Foreign Mission Society in 1875. "Bethanie Chapel" was originally a sanatorium, mainly providing a place for local missionaries to rest their bodies and minds. The entire building was built in the Gothic Revival style, and is one of the few remaining French-style buildings in Hong Kong.

The so-called Gothic Revival architecture, also known as Neo-Gothic architecture. From about the middle of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century, in order to imitate the medieval Gothic architecture, the retro trend derived another architectural style from it.

Afterwards, the sanatorium ceased operations and closed, and the "Bethanie Chapel" was leased to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts as a school building. At the same time, renovation work began here, and it took several years for the renovation work to be completed. In addition to classrooms, the renovated "Bethanie Chapel" also has studios, projection rooms and school auditoriums for students studying in the Department of Film and Television.

In addition, in the "Bethanie Chapel", there is also a chapel and a small exhibition hall. The small exhibition hall collects the historical relics of the sanatorium and briefly introduces the history of French missionaries in Asia in the past 300 years. As for the chapel, in addition to being a good place for religious ceremonies, it is also a popular location for weddings.

Unlike common churches, this small church does not have any religious background, so if you want to rent this small church, you do not need to have religious beliefs. Therefore, couples who want to hold a romantic wedding in the church can choose to hold it here.

The building of the whole church makes people feel old and elegant. Although there is no gorgeous retro decoration, the plain lines of the outer wall can show a simple taste. "Bethanie Chapel" has always been popular with photography enthusiasts, and it can be said to be a popular place to take pictures. So if you have free time, it is also a good choice to come here to take pictures.

If you want the service of a tour guide, there are also related services here, and there are three language options including Mandarin, Cantonese and English, which are serious and considerate.

If you want to visit here, it is recommended to take the MTR to Hong Kong Station and leave at Exit B1. Afterwards, take the minibus No. 22 at the Exchange Square minibus terminus and get off at Pok Fu Lam Riding School.
After getting off the minibus, follow the signs and walk to the Chinese Culinary Institute. The church is next to the Chinese Culinary Institute.
