Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences - The first museum dedicated to the history of medical development.

During the period of the British implemented colonial rule over Hong Kong, plague used to break out all over Hong Kong. In order to prevent the further spread of the epidemic, while carrying out large-scale cleaning operations, the first bacteriological laboratory for medical tests in Hong Kong was built at the place where the plague broke out. The purpose was to prevent and control the outbreak of plague and other diseases. The place that HongKongFootprint.com will visit today is the bacteriological laboratory that once shouldered the responsibility of dealing with the plague.

Over the years, this bacteriological laboratory has played a very important role in the development of medical care in Hong Kong. Afterwards in 1970s, it completed its final mission and closed. This laboratory has witnessed the development of medical science in Hong Kong. Until 1996, it was converted into the "Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences" for visitors to visit.

Today's "Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences" still retains the architectural features of the past. The entire building was built in the British Edwardian architectural style. In addition to the most obvious red brick walls, it also added some architectural elements specially designed to adapt to the tropical climate. The open balcony is one of the classic examples.

In front of the "Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences" is a small herbal garden. There are various plants related to herbal medicine, and visitors can appreciate each plant form up close. This is also a good photo spot. Every year, many visitors come here to take pictures.

In addition to being a declared monument in Hong Kong, the "Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences" is also a unique museum. The museum not only preserves some medical relics of great historical value, but also introduces the development history of Hong Kong medicine in detail. It includes the current development of medicine in Hong Kong and some challenges to be faced in the future. This will enable visitors to have a clearer understanding of Hong Kong's medicine and disease transmission.

The "Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences" is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The opening hours on Sundays and public holidays are from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Also note that it is closed on Mondays, but if that day is a public holiday, it will remain open as usual. As for admission tickets, the adult fare is about HK$20. The fare for seniors, students and children is about HK$10.
