Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre - A former military camp. A museum with full of Hong Kong heritage relics.

The "Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre" located in "Kowloon Park" was formerly the barracks of "Whitfield Barracks". "Whitfield Barracks" was built in 1890, mainly used for military training and military quarters. Until 1967, the barracks was officially closed. The site was converted to recreational use, and two of the barracks were converted into today's "Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre". HongKongFootprint.com will take you on a tour now.

The "Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre", formerly a military barracks, was built during the period of the British implemented colonial rule over Hong Kong. It is mainly built with reference to the architectural style that was popular in the United Kingdom at that time. There are also some architectural elements specially designed to adapt to the tropical climate of Asia, such as wooden shutters, which are used to regulate indoor temperature and humidity.

The "Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre" opened to the public in 2005. There are a number of permanent exhibitions and special exhibitions in the exhibition halls, which mainly showcase the historical sites of Hong Kong and introduce some information about heritage conservation, so as to enhance visitors' understanding of Hong Kong's cultural heritage.

There is a permanent exhibition on the first floor of the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre. The theme of this exhibition is archaeology and cultural relics. By exhibiting some cultural relics found in Hong Kong, visitors can better understand the history and culture of Hong Kong, thereby deepening their understanding of Hong Kong's cultural heritage conservation work.

While strolling through the exhibition halls, visitors can learn more about Hong Kong's declared monuments while appreciating Hong Kong's cultural heritage. The thematic exhibitions in the exhibition halls are also quite attractive, most of which are related to archaeological discoveries and historical buildings. By exhibiting archaeological relics of different ages, visitors are made aware of the importance of cultural relics conservation and cultural heritage.

There is also a library on the basement floor of the "Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre". There are some books on archaeology, history and cultural relics in the library, or some related reference materials. This library does not have a loan service, and visitors can only read these books in the library.

The Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre is open from Monday to Friday, 10:00am to 6:00pm. For Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, the opening hours are from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Also note that it is closed on Thursdays, but if that day is a public holiday, it will remain open as usual. In addition, the "Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Museum" is free to enter, and there are not many visitors. It is definitely a good place for leisure walks. If you want to visit the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, it is recommended to take the MTR to Tsim Sha Tsui Station and leave at Exit A1. After leaving the station, go straight to the left and you will see Kowloon Park. The Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre is located in Kowloon Park, and you can easily reach it by following the signs in the park.
